WARNING: The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery.

If you have gotten that message on your Dell laptop and you are wondering how to fix it then you are in the right place.

Some users with Dell laptops like the Dell Inspiron 1501 and the Dell Vostro 1000 have been seeing the above error message at boot up.

THE FIX: The easiest way that I have found to fix this problem is by downloading the BIOS driver for you system from the Dell website. There is an option to add/edit your service tag. I recommend that you use that feature, as it will help you to locate the correct BIOS driver for your laptop.

DOESN’T WORK: I’ve seen some sites that advise users to replace the battery, but that will not fix the problem. Running down the battery and then restarting the system also does not fix this issue.

I hope that this information helps anyone with this problem. Feel free to leave a comment if you have tried it and it worked (or didn’t work as the case may be).
